North Mill Bridge Update 24/3

Easebourne Parish Council received the following update from West Sussex Highways this morning –

I can confirm that the stone for North Mill Bridge is being delivered to site today and the concrete barriers will be moved overnight to provide the necessary working room for the stonemason.  We anticipate the work will be completed towards the end of next week. Once the bridge repairs have been carried out the lining work on the road itself will be undertaken overnight and the lights will be removed from site.

Defibrillator recovered

After one of the village Defibrillators was taken without purpose earlier in the week we can confirm that it has now been recovered and will shortly be returned inside the phonebox. A big thank you to several residents who quickly responded to our Facebook post asking for any information.

Thankfully the device has not been damaged but this mindless action could well have endangered someone’s life had it been needed. The incident has been reported to the Police who continue to investigate.

If you have any information as to who was involved or saw anything please contact the Police or the Parish Council.

Newly formed Greenheal is a local environmental charity offshoot from Easebourne and Lodsworth Parish councils and is focused on delivering projects which enhance and protect the environment in our parishes. Greenheal is making available high quality apple and cherry fruit trees at the heavily discounted price of £15 per tree. The trees will be ready for collection from 10am on Saturday 22nd March in the car park at Easebourne Park by Easebourne Primary School.

‘Let’s Talk: Housing’ — Have your say on new Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy for the Chichester District

Chichester District Council is asking for people’s views on the aims and actions proposed for its new Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy, as part of a public consultation that will run until Monday 3 March.

The new strategy, which covers the period 2025 to 2030, looks at how the council will work with partners to prevent people from becoming homeless; create and retain affordable housing for young people and families; address the housing needs of older people; and improve housing standards for all of its residents.

Christmas Waste Collections

It’s that time of year again! 🎄🎁📦

Chichester District Council have announced their revised waste collection days as below. Any extra waste from the holiday period will be picked up by collection crews on the first collection after Christmas. If residents have any extra recycling, they need to ensure that it is kept dry in a loosely tied black sack and placed next to their recycling bin on the day of collection.

There will also be changes to clinical waste collections, with affected residents to be contacted directly.

Don’t forget you can get reminders of which bin needs to go out on which day if you download the Chichester District Council app.

Pest Control Advice for Easebourne Residents

There have been increased reports of pest activity in the Parish in the last few months and as a result the Council has received the following form Chichester District Council to help advise concerned Parishioners.

Owners and property occupiers have a legal responsibility under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 to keep land free of rats and mice, or if rats or mice are present in substantial numbers, to report infestations to the local authority.

Chichester District Council no longer provides a pest control service, so we recommend contact is made with a private pest control company to deal with any pest infestations. Further information is available on our website – Pest control – Chichester District Council

To prevent rat infestations, the following measures are recommended:

  • Pest treatments are available through High Street outlets, should a household choose to conduct their own baiting. However, the benefit from using an accredited contractor includes the stronger bait they are able to safely use and also the experience they bring.
  • Rats require three basic elements to exist; harbourage, water and food. Keeping gardens clear from rubbish and overgrown areas reduces harbourage.  The removal of bird feeding and open, unsecure, compost bin cuts down the availability of a food source.  If you have your own animals, it is essential that areas are kept clean and all food sources are secure.  Food should not be left out unattended.
  • Eliminate any harbourage points such as sealing gaps around pipes and under sheds; rats only need a gap of 15mm to gain entry.
  • Remove potential nesting sites by keeping yards and gardens clean and tidy, by cutting back overgrown areas and clearing any piles of wood/debris.
  • Ensure that drain inspection covers are in a good state of repair.
  • Cover any household waste where Brown Rats can get access to it, close dustbin lids and cover compost heaps.
  • If you feed garden birds, do not do this to excess and use a bird table or feeder basket if possible.
