Dredging at South Pond

The following has been received from CDC, should you see works taking place at South Pond in the coming weeks…

Date of Release:  31 January 2024                                                                   Ref: 4323

Dredging to take place at Midhurst’s South Pond

Routine dredging will be taking place at South Pond in Midhurst in early February.

The work, carried out by Chichester District Council’s contractor will run from 5 to 9 February 2024. The work is carried out at regular intervals to remove sediment that is naturally washed down stream into the pond.

The work will help to prevent flooding and ensure the continued flow of water to the outlet.

This work is necessary in order to help prevent flooding, and the district council undertake it at this time of year to avoid the bird nesting season.

Parts of the pondside will be closed for the duration of the works to enable the council’s contractor to work safely.

Sediment will be dredged from a central channel through the pond and placed among the reed beds and on the bankside in the north-east corner.  This is normal practice and means the job can be completed with minimum disruption.

People with questions about the work are asked to email parks@chichester.gov.uk

Brand new Defibrillator outside the Village Shop

We’re delighted to say that there is now another Defibrillator installed in the village, the 4th lifesaving piece of equipment that we have throughout our community.

This one was made possible by a generous donation from a resident and Parish Councillor, David Pack, in memory of his mother Elsie, who died last year aged 97 having lived in the village for 73 years.

St Mary’s Church and the Parish Council also contributed to the overall cost and Cowdray Estate generously donated the installation.

Minor damage to the Loo means short closure

Update 24th Jan – the damage caused to the loo door is more significant that originally thought and due to ongoing windy weather forecast for Thursday and into Friday, we have taken the decision to keep both loos closed until Saturday 27th Jan. As well as scheduling the repair, we are also looking at how the doors can be strengthened. We apologise for any inconvenience.

During the very windy weather the Eco-loo has suffered some damage to the door. With the forecasted high winds again in the next 24/36 hours, and whilst the door is repaired, the loo will be closed. We expect things to be open again during Wednesday. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

New Year, New Challenge?

Are you looking for a new challenge for the New Year?

If you’ve lived in our Parish for more than 12 months, have a keen interest in what happens within our community, have some spare time and want to get involved, then we could be looking for you!

The Parish Council currently have 3 vacancies for volunteer Councillors. As a Council we are responsible for a number of things within the Parish, including the development and maintenance of Easebourne Park. We are consulted on all planning applications within the village and manage the Parish precept, collected as part of your Council Tax.

We meet as a full council every other month, with other Committees such as Finance and Planning meeting monthly. We are a diverse group of individuals who all care about what happens in the Parish and what we can do to enhance it. Rest assured, it’s not at all like a meeting on The Vicar of Dibley!

If you’re interested to learn more about what’s involved and how you could help, please get in touch with Emma, our Parish Clerk in the first instance. Contact details are on the Contact page on this website.

Eco Loo update to opening

Easebourne Park Loos opening times
Further to the post earlier this week, the Parish Council have now reviewed the additional budget required to keep one of the loos open over the autumn/winter months. It has been agreed to trial keeping one loo open 7 days a week, during the hours of daylight. This will happen until at least the end of this year and perhaps beyond.
If we are to maintain at least 1 loo open 365 days a year we will need to find an additional £2000 over and above what we had previously budgeted. This potentially means as we review our precept requirements for 2024 we would have to increase the overall contribution required from future Council tax revenues.

Eco Loo opening times

Easebourne Park Loos opening times
Following some community feedback, the Parish Council are reviewing the seasonal closing of the park loos. Presently it is scheduled that both loos will close on 30 October. It’s possible that one loo can remain open for longer, but that does have financial implications outside of the current budget. This is currently being reviewed and we will revert with any revised decisions/dates shortly.

Preliminary works at Egmont Road

We have been advised by Metis Homes that some preliminary tree protection works at the approved Egmont Road site are beginning. In addition some archaeological trenching is being dug w/c 9th October and then, all being well, the initial road access works down the side of the Conifers’ car park during the school half term from 23rd October. The aim is to get that work done during half term to maximise health and safety.
