Vandalism in Easebourne Park

We are extremely sad to see that the Roundhouse has suffered a fresh round of vandalism in the last few weeks, the most recent being yesterday. Each time the damage has occurred to the inside of the roof structure, by the use of a ball, stick or bat being hit hard again the wooden planks to dislodge and damage them. This is a costly and tricky thing to repair, funds that ultimately could be far better used elsewhere.
The latest incident was yesterday, Wednesday 5th July at approximately 17.50 when 3 young males were caught by the CCTV cycling inside the Roundhouse and then aggressively kicking a ball at the roof, resulting in the damage shown on the picture above.
They were also then recorded acting very suspiciously in and around the new Eco Toilets, although no damage has been discovered.
This incident has been reported to the Police and we will supply the CCTV footage as evidence.
If you have any information that might help the Police please contact them directly or share in confidence with us by emailing parishclerk@easebourne.org
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this sort of behaviour in the Park and we’re very much hoping this is an isolated incident, but we will progress this and any subsequent incidents with the authorities and we continue to review CCTV images on a daily basis.

Network Rail Closure Monday 24 to Friday 28 July

Below is information received by Network Rail regarding up coming line closures that might affect your journeys.

“We are writing to let you know that 5-days of consecutive work will begin between Guildford and Petersfield in late July. We’ll be continuing with our preparatory work for the Farncombe to Petersfield resignalling scheme, installing power cables at Haslemere and Farncombe (with accompanying buildings for signalling and electrical equipment) and improving the safety of level crossings at several locations including a level crossing upgrade at Sheet.

While the railway is closed, we will take the opportunity to complete some minor routine works such as:

  • Track maintenance along the stretch of the closed line
  • Track renewal at Haslemere station
  • Vegetation work between Farncombe and Witley
  • Vegetation, clearance and drainage works between Grayswood and Haslemere”

Park equipment replacements

You may have noticed that some work was taking place in the Park today, replacing the toddler swings, replacing the trampolines and some of the safety matting on other equipment. Thank you for your patience if something has not been available during your visit. There are a few more pieces of work to complete but things should all be fully operational very soon!

Coffee in the Park

Sadly it looks like Tom and The Goatbox will not be joining us in the Park over the summer. Although feedback to him and us was fantastic and people seemed to love him being there, there just wasn’t a sufficient level of business to make it viable for him to continue.

We’re hoping to convince him to come back for specific weekends, maybe Bank Holidays, but we’re also looking at other options.

SDNPA press release – 22nd June – Road to re-open 23rd June

Here is the latest press release from the SDNPA, issued today, 22nd June:

Work to shore up fire-damaged buildings in Midhurst completed ahead of schedule and road to reopen

“We are pleased to announce that the seven-week programme to shore up the fire damaged listed buildings in Midhurst which began on 15 May will be completed 10 days ahead of schedule.
The work has included shoring up the listed buildings affected and taking down the three large chimneys which were at serious risk of uncontrolled collapse.

The side elevation of the Angel Hotel has also been safely shored up to enable vehicle access to the residents of Angel Yard, which is directly behind the hotel. The final, legally required structural safety inspections have taken place to approve the work, and the hoarding around the scaffolding has been put in place.

This Friday morning (23 June) we will officially hand over to West Sussex County Council as the Highways Authority, to enable them to reopen the road in both directions. West Sussex County Council have confirmed that they will reopen the road late this

The Angel Update – SDNPA 15th June

This is the update from the SDNPA issued on the 15th June:”Most recently the work has focused on the three large chimneys of the listed buildings which were left at serious risk of uncontrolled collapse after the fire. All three chimneys have now been successfully taken down to a safe level.

The seven-week programme (from 15 May) is well on track. The next phase of the shoring up will be to complete the internal scaffolding and fixings. Once this is completed, final, legally required structural safety inspections will need to be carried out and the hoarding around the scaffolding built.

Once the hoarding is completed, the National Park Authority will hand over to West Sussex County Council to carry out the necessary road safety and traffic management work so that the road can be reopened in both directions.

We would like to thank the people of  Midhurst who have rallied to support our contractors over the last week. Together we have been working hard to ensure that Midhurst can reopen as soon as possible.”

We have produced an FAQs specifically around the shoring up work and this can be found at www.southdowns.gov.uk/midhurst-fire-updates/

The multi-agency recovery group has also created a more detailed FAQs, prepared by Chichester District Council which includes information about business support and highways issues.

Damaged Bus Shelter – update

Following a collision, the bus shelter on the A286 just north of Kings Drive was damaged beyond repair and has since been removed.

We now have approval from the insurance companies involved to proceed with it’s replacement. This has already been ordered and we are expecting installation towards the end of July or early August. We will try to bring that forward if we possibly can.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
