Volunteering Opportunity with the National Trust

The Parish Council has received the following details from the National Trust, a fantastic opportunity to get out in the countryside!

The National Trust are offering a new opportunity to become a ‘Woolbeding Reimagined’ volunteer.

Woolbeding Reimagined is an exciting project led by the National Trust’s South Downs West team whereby we hope to encourage nature recovery across ex-arable land in the Woolbeding area. We hope you can get involved in some way and become part of the journey which aims to establish species rich habitats, engage with more people and improve access to the countryside.

More details about the project can be found on our webpage Woolbeding conservation project | Sussex | National Trust

There are several volunteer roles, for all sorts of different abilities, interests and availabilities. However, we are in the early stages of the project delivery, so we want to keep things broad to allow you to help us develop these roles. Some of the volunteering opportunities we have in mind include:

  • collecting widlflower seeds for dispersal and propagation
  • taking part in the plant propagation programme
  • roaming rangers to ramble across the site and inform us of what you’ve seen and help remediate
  • ranger volunteering positions to help physically on tasks
  • social media officers to update and engage the public
  • admin assistants for record keeping and organisation
  • livestock lookering to help monitor the cattle and sheep
  • ecological surveying to assess if wildlife is increasing
  • and more!

You’ll be volunteering alongside me, Charlotte Eley. I joined the team in mid-May and I will be hosting a ‘volunteer opportunities’ Open Morning on Friday 4th July from 10:00 until 12:00 at the South Downs West Estate Office:

Pound Common Yard
Woolbeding
West Sussex
GU29 0QB
///informed.clustered.smoke .

It will be an informal session whereby I will introduce myself and take some time to explain the project and what volunteering might look like. But there will be lots of time for questions and then I will show you around the yard and we can see some of the livestock too.

Please let me know if you plan to attend by emailing charlotte.eley@nationaltrust.org.uk. Parking is available on site but is fairly limited, so please car share where possible.

Thank you. Hopefully see you soon.

Hollist Lane Road Closure

As many residents will already be aware, Hollist Lane will be closed from Monday 14th April to Friday 16th May to allow the replacement of the gas main. These works will be carried out by Dunkerton Utilities Limited on behalf of SGN. Please see below for further details directly from the contractor –

From Monday 14 April to Friday 16 May, SGN contractors Dunkerton Utilities Limited will start a programme of work to replace the gas main on Hollist Lane in Easebourne. These essential works involve replacing the old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and efficient gas supply to the wider community.

Our engineers will be replacing the gas main along Hollist Road from its junction with A286 down to the junction with Weaver Close. Due to the location of the gas main in the road for everyone’s safety a road closure will be required. The map below shows the location of the closure.

The closure will start at the junction of Weaver Close and will move along the road in sections heading to the A286 – the closure will move as work progresses.

This closure will mean

  • No through vehicle traffic past the point of closure in either direction. A signed diversion route will be in place.
  • Vehicle access to properties located within the closure will be maintained. The team will keep those properties affected informed about their access arrangements; these will change as the works progress.
  • Parking suspensions within the work area – will be required; due to the width of road space we are unable to safely accommodate parked cars within the work area.
  • Bin collection days will remain unchanged unless you hear otherwise from your service provider.

We understand how disruptive road closures are for the community, our engineers will be working extended hours and weekends to ensure they get these works completed as quickly and as safely as possible.

For the most up to date information regarding these works please visit https://sgn.co.uk/our-gas-works.  If you have a question, please contact our customer service team on customer@sgn.co.uk or alternatively call on 0800 912 1700, the customer team will ensure your enquiry is responded to by a member of the project team. We’re sorry for the inconvenience our work will cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

North Mill Bridge Repairs Almost Complete

The following has been received from West Sussex Highways regarding the repairs to the North Mill Bridge. Not long to go until back to normal.

Works have progressed well on the bridge this week and, all being well, it is anticipated that they will be completed on 1 April.

We have planned a road closure the evening/night of the 1 April to remove the concrete barriers and complete the new lining on the bridge.  This lining scheme will remove the centre line and mark the edge of the carriageway so as to provide further warning to motorists of the narrower width.

North Mill Bridge Update 24/3

Easebourne Parish Council received the following update from West Sussex Highways this morning –

I can confirm that the stone for North Mill Bridge is being delivered to site today and the concrete barriers will be moved overnight to provide the necessary working room for the stonemason.  We anticipate the work will be completed towards the end of next week. Once the bridge repairs have been carried out the lining work on the road itself will be undertaken overnight and the lights will be removed from site.
